Mike McDonnell:

After a career in electronic engineering with Sony in Dublin, Mike was called home to join the family business at the time, a butcher shop in Tralee town Square. Taking over from his father and deciding to raise his family in Tralee, he was inspired to set up a caravan park after seeing so many touring caravans and camper vans driving through Tralee town with nowhere to stay and going to Dingle, Killarney and the Ring of Kerry. Knowing that Tralee has so much to offer tourists and yet they were only passing through was what made him convert the old family farm land which long ago was used to supply the butcher shop. Having a pre-existing entrance to the land half way up a steep and narrow hill was going to pose a problem so an ambitious plan to build a bridge over the River Lee was envisioned. This linked the land up with the Dan Spring Road which was much more accessible for our touring guests. 14 years on the business is still going strong and constantly evolving and changing to suit our customer’s needs. Mike is also a huge yachting enthusiast and has done long passages such as Ireland to the Canary Islands and even won the Dun Laoighre to Dingle Yacht Race in 2009.

Martina McDonnell:

Mikes wife also left her high flying job in banking and finance to raise the family in Tralee and work in the butcher shop. A garden enthusiast, she has a huge input planning and designing the landscaping in the park and making sure that all summer long there are beautiful flowers in bloom. There is some land at the back of the park which is undeveloped and is now used by a local landscaping and forestry company to grow their foliage which we are delighted with.

Jane Murphy:

Mike & Martina’s eldest daughter travelled the world for many years visiting far flung places such as Australia, South America, Africa and Asia. She worked for large tour operators as their overseas manager in Greece, Spain and France, having the best of both worlds while living in Ski resorts for the winter and in the Mediterranean islands in the summer. Working with tourists abroad gave her a huge expertise in customer service and a deep understanding of the tourism sector. In 2010 she made the big decision to move home and join the family business where she has developed our online presence and is the face behind our facebook account!

Finn:

Finn, our resident black labrador, is the newest addition to our family having been adopted from Luxembourg in Sept 2011. He is already a huge hit with our guests and is very well behaved. As you can see we are never short of firewood with him around!
